A heavyweight short-sleeve T-shirt in Polartec® Power Dry® FR, designed for men who work in environments where ordinary synthetic base layers become a liability. The fabric is a modacrylic-based blend (66% modacrylic, 29% rayon, 5% spandex), so flame resistance is inherent to the fibres themselves rather than a surface treatment. It does not support combustion and will not wash out or wear off.
At 254 g/m², this is the denser of the two Power Dry® FR tees in the range. It delivers more substance against the skin, greater abrasion resistance under a carrier or pack, and extra warmth for cold-season duty.
Power Dry® construction keeps a heavy fabric workable under load. It pulls moisture off the skin and spreads it across the outer face for faster evaporation, so the shirt continues performing as long as you do. The loose cut works equally well worn alone or as a base layer under a combat shirt, plate carrier, or shell. Size L weighs 278 g.
Performance Features
- Inherent flame resistance: Built into the modacrylic fibre blend, not applied as a finish. Cannot wash out or degrade over the life of the garment. Does not support combustion.
- Heavyweight 254 g/m² fabric: Substantially denser than a standard base layer. Resists abrasion under equipment and provides real warmth in cold conditions - the lighter base-weight version is optimised for heat.
- Polartec® Power Dry® moisture transport: Bi-component knit moves sweat away from the skin and disperses it across the outer surface for rapid evaporation, keeping you drier during sustained effort.
- Loose cut: Comfortable worn solo or as the foundation of a layering system. Won’t bind at the shoulders or ride up under gear.
- 5% spandex for movement: Enough stretch for unrestricted movement during reach, climb, and load carriage, while helping the fabric retain its shape.
Versatility & Layering
This T-shirt is built as the first layer for cold-season duty:
- Standalone Layer: The denser knit has enough substance to be worn on its own.
- Under a Plate Carrier or Pack: The heavier fabric resists abrasion where straps and plates rub, without binding at the shoulders.
- Under Insulation: In cold weather, wear it beneath a Power Grid® (L2) or High Loft™ (L3) jacket. Those fleeces are not flame-resistant — where FR protection is required, every layer needs to be FR.
