Most wind shells force a choice: either they block the wind or they let you move. This one does both.

The L4 is built from Milliken® nylon — the same American mill that supplies fabric to the U.S. military — woven at 142 g/m² with 2 % spandex. The stretch is not a marketing feature; it is what lets the jacket follow your shoulders and elbows instead of fighting them when you reach, climb or wear plate. A proper DWR finish sheds rain, and the NIR treatment keeps the fabric quieter under night-vision.

At 620 g this is not an emergency packable. It is a hard-wearing wind layer meant to live over a fleece or mid-layer day after day. The hood disappears into the collar when you do not need it. The two-way YKK main zip lets you vent from the bottom while the throat stays sealed. Independent drawcords at waist and hem let you close the jacket down over a plate carrier or pack. Five pockets (two large external, two sleeve, one internal) stay reachable even when you are loaded.

Versatility & Layering

Built as a true Level 4 wind shell, the jacket works three ways:

1. Standalone Shell (L4)
   Over a base layer in dry, windy conditions. The Milliken® nylon stops convective heat loss on its own, while the 2 % spandex keeps shoulders and stride free — no restriction, no flapping.
2. Over a Midlayer (L2/L3)
   Pull it over Polartec® Power Grid® or High Loft fleece. It traps the heat the midlayer generates and still lets moisture move out. This is the standard setup for moving hard in cold wind.
3. Under Insulation (L7)
   The moment you stop moving in extreme cold, add a puffer or insulated layer on top. The smooth nylon face slides cleanly under a plate carrier or pack, and the waist + hem drawcords let you cinch everything down so nothing rides up or lets wind in.

Performance Features

• Stretch Nylon Shell: Milliken® nylon at 142 g/m² with 2% spandex woven in, giving the shell real freedom of movement across the shoulders without a loose, flapping cut.
• DWR and NIR® Finish: Durable water-repellent treatment sheds light precipitation; NIR® lowers the fabric's infrared signature and reduces visibility under night-vision optics.
• Stowaway Hood: The hood folds into the collar, so the jacket works as a clean-collared wind shell when the weather turns and as a hooded one when it does not.
• Two-Way Main Zip: Open the hem from below to vent heat or clear a belt while the throat stays sealed. A windproof placket sits behind the full length of the zip.
• Five-Pocket Layout: Two large zipped external pockets, two zipped sleeve pockets and one internal hook-and-loop pocket keep essentials reachable over a plate carrier or pack straps.
• Waist and Hem Adjustment: Independent drawcords at the waist and the hem let you shape the fit and block wind entering from below.
