Full-Length Side Zips. On Over Boots. Level 7 Insulation.

The other half of the ALFA PrimaLoft® II set — the Level 7 of the American Gen III ECWCS system, built for standing cold rather than moving cold. The shell is Gelanots® Lamination, Japanese nylon and membrane from Toyota Tsusho rated 20,000 mm H₂O waterproof and 20,000 g/m²/24h breathable, with sealed seams throughout. Insulation is PrimaLoft® Silver, the microfibre synthetic that keeps working when wet at a thermal resistance of 2.15 against goose down's 2.18 — the reason it replaced down in extreme cold weather issue kit.

The detail that decides whether insulated trousers actually get worn is how you put them on. These open along the full length of both legs with moisture-resistant lateral zips backed by wind flaps, so they go on and come off over boots without unlacing anything, and the same zips vent heat when you start moving.

Knees and the inside of the lower legs are reinforced with Nylon 6.6 Cordura® against crampon strikes, kneeling and boot abrasion. The waistband is elasticated with belt loops, braces are included, and construction throughout uses high-strength COATS thread. Complete weight is 920 g.

Versatility & Layering

These are the Level 7 outer layer for the legs. Two ways to wear them:

Over your combat trousers (L7) — the standard position. Full-length side zips open both legs end to end, so they go on over boots and over what you are already wearing, at the moment the halt starts.
Over a base layer alone — in a static overnight position, shed damp outer trousers and pull these straight over thermals without unlacing your boots; dry insulation against the cold at skin level when you are producing no heat of your own.

Performance Features

Full-length lateral zips: Both legs open end to end with moisture-resistant zips, so the trousers go on over boots and ventilate on the move without coming off.
Wind flaps behind the zips: Every side zip is backed by a protective flap, closing the obvious weak point in a full-length opening.
Cordura® Nylon 6.6 reinforcement: Doubled at the knees and the inner lower legs — the two zones that wear through first when kneeling or walking in stiff winter boots.
PrimaLoft® Silver insulation: Highly compressible synthetic fill that keeps insulating when wet and returns to full loft, so the trousers pack down between uses.
Elastic waist, belt loops and braces: Braces are included in the box, so the trousers stay put over layers without cinching the waist.
20,000/20,000 Gelanots® membrane, sealed seams: Sitting on wet snow is the real test for insulated trousers, and the taped construction is rated for it.

Care

Wash only with a special washing liquid for membrane clothing.
Machine wash on a delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C. Do not spin.
Do not tumble dry, and do not dry on a radiator or near a fire.
Do not use chlorine bleach, solvents or stain removers.
Do not use household fabric softeners or conditioners, unless made specifically for membrane clothing.
Do not iron.
Do not dry clean.
Before drying, check that no detergent marks remain. If they do, rinse again.
Let the water drain out before drying, so the wet insulation does not strain the lining seams.
Dry inside out at room temperature, smoothed out, with good air circulation and out of direct sunlight.
Pre-soak heavily soiled areas in the same detergent.
