Level 7 Warmth. 20,000mm Waterproof. Cordura® Reinforced. Built for Static Cold.

The ALFA PrimaLoft® II is a winter membrane jacket built to the level 7 of the Gen III ECWCS system — the extreme cold weather layer. It is designed to be worn when you are stationary or moving slowly in deep cold, layered over shells and mid-layers.

The shell uses Japanese Gelanots® Lamination (nylon + membrane from Toyota Tsusho), rated 20,000 mm H₂O waterproof and 20,000 g/m²/24h breathable, with fully sealed seams. Its non-porous membrane drives vapour outward under body-generated pressure while blocking liquid water. Sixth-generation S-DWR is built into the fabric structure during production, not applied as a surface coating.

Insulation is zoned PrimaLoft® Silver: 200 g/m² through the torso to protect core heat, dropping to 133 g/m² in the sleeves for better mobility. PrimaLoft retains nearly all of its loft and warmth when wet (thermal resistance close to high-quality goose down), which is why it has long replaced down in this role. Elbows are reinforced with Nylon 6.6 Cordura®. Side and sleeve pockets close with waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zips. All seams are sewn with high-strength COATS thread. Complete jacket weight is 1,250 g.

Pair it with the matching ALFA PrimaLoft® II trousers for a full Level 7 set.

Versatility & Layering

Built as the Level 7 outer layer of the ECWCS system, the jacket works in the following ways:

  1. Static Cold Over the System (L7)
Pull it over your fleece and shell the moment you stop — an observation post, a halt, night watch, a vehicle move. The cut is sized to go over other layers, and the 200 g/m² torso protects core heat exactly when your body stops producing it.
  2. Standalone Weatherproof Outer Layer
In wet snow and sleet it does the hardshell's job as well: 20,000 mm Gelanots® lamination, sealed seams and YKK AquaGuard® zips cover insulation and weather protection in one garment, and the S-DWR is built into the fabric structure, so the face keeps shedding water wash after wash.

Performance Features

  • Zoned PrimaLoft® Silver insulation: 200 g/m² in the body, 133 g/m² in the sleeves. Heat where you lose it, less bulk where you need to move.
  • Gen III ECWCS Level 7 — Purpose-built as the outermost extreme-cold layer of a proven military system. Designed to fit over other layers.

  • Cordura® Nylon 6.6 elbow reinforcement: The abrasion point that kills insulated jackets first is doubled with the same fabric used on load-bearing gear.

  • YKK AquaGuard® waterproof zips: Water-resistant closures on the insulated hand pockets and both sleeve pockets, so pocket contents stay dry in wet snow.
  • Six-pocket layout: Two large insulated exterior pockets, two sleeve pockets and two large interior mesh pockets — the mesh interiors also dump excess heat when the jacket is open.
  • Triple fit adjustment and wind flap: Three adjustment points plus a hem drawcord tune the fit over layers, and an internal wind-resistant flap backs the main zip.
  • Polartec® Classic collar treatment: Soft fleece facing in the collar zone, where a laminated shell would otherwise abrade the neck.
